Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation, UiTM seals cooperation with Japanese university

FUKUOKA – UiTM’s Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation (FSR) has sealed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japan’s Fukuoka University (FU) in various academic cooperation.

This includes the exchanging of academic staff, students mobility programme, joint research, organising of conferences and other international collaborations.

To kickstart the programme, a professor in Public Health from FU will be attached at FSR for a year beginning this September.

Prof Dr Tetsushi Moriguchi from the Faculty of Sports and Health Science FU is also the Chairman of Physical Fitness of the Japanese Handball Association and a member of the Japanese Olympic Committee.

Dr Moriguchi has wide experience in sport sciences throughout Japan and an acupuncturist in sports clinic at FU.

The MoU between UiTM and FU was signed by the President of FU, Prof Dr Masotoshi Yamaguchi at his office here yesterday.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Dean of Industry Linkage, Networking, Research and Alumni FSR UiTM, Associate Professor Datin Dr Sarimah Ismail, Dr Tetsushi Moriguchi, Kana Ide of Center for International Programs FU and Shariman Ismadi Ismail, who is a FSR lecturer currently pursuing his PhD in Biomechanics at FU.

After the signing ceremony, Dr Sarimah discussed several agenda with the Dean of the Faculty of Sports and Health Science FU, Prof. Mamoru Tanaka, including a proposed co-organising of a conference with UiTM, FU and Busan University in South Korea.

Meanwhile, Dean of FSR, Dr Razali Mohammad Salleh when contacted, strongly believed that the cooperation would expand opportunities on expertise from both faculties.

“I hope that our faculty members would grab this cross academic opportunity with Fukuoka University and learn from their vast experience in sport sciences,” he added.

Fukuoka University, which will be celebrating its 100th anniversary has established itself as one of the largest private research universities in western Japan.

The university has 31 departments in nine undergraduate faculties and 34 majors in ten graduate schools.

It has a student population of about 20,000 students, including 800 foreign students.

Fukuoka University Hospital is one of Japan’s top hospitals.
