Eco-shift: Archieving our “outputs” and “outcomes”

OUTPUTS will not be able to change people at large in terms of habits, behaviour and culture… where eco-shift occurred, OUTCOMES could be achieved: eco-loving culture!

ECOSHIFT is about end-in-mind that we could achieve our “outputs” and “outcomes” by employing a proper framework, insya-Allah.

Example: A ministry could plan, strategise and implement policy related to water management. It requires a workable-facility-system comprising sewage treatment plants, industrial wastewater treatment plants, scheduled waste facilities, grey water and stormwater management, and solid waste management system.

Upon completion, the facility-system need to be continuously improved to meet new requirements in many aspects. Then we can achieve our OUTPUTS ie to build and run the facilities. In some countries it could be part of KPIs.

However, such outputs will not be able to change people at large in terms of habits, behaviour and culture.

We need to engage them through appropriate public participation by informing, consulting, involving, collaborating and empowering them. They could easily understand the importance of water management.

The question remains on their commitment and passion: paying the sewerage services, disposing their waste through proper means, and plogging along the river banks within their vicinity to ensure that the water resources are well protected?

In some cases, where eco-shift occurred, they might go beyond the conventional wisdom. Example by asking higher water tariff and imposing green tax to encourage water conservation and energy efficiency.

This is the stage where OUTCOMES could be achieved: eco-loving culture!
