MIRI — Big forest-fires are burning in Miri and producing smog and haze, yet again.
These forest-fires are raging in two separate locations adjacent to the Eastwood Golf Course, and they are blowing smoke into the city centre.
One of the fires is about 60 hectares in size, and the other fire about a km away is 24 hectares in size.
One hectare is about 2.5 acres – the size of 2.5 football fields.
In its latest updates, Bomba Miri said 63 fire-fighters are at the fire sites now to fight the fires on the ground.
In the meantime, Miri MP Dr Michael Teo has sought an explanation from the management of a giant development consortium – the owner of the private land on which the fires are raging.
Dr Teo wants the owner to deploy their workers en-masse to assist Bomba fire-fighters to douse the fires.
He said the smog from the fires has resulted in haze being blown into the city centre.
