IT is heart warming to learn of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s concern for the welfare of media personnel covering the recent hive of activity outside the Istana Negara. This, as social media videos of media officials receiving food packs from palace representatives pulls at one’s heartstrings.

Now, this is not something new. Previous news reports and videos have shown the King personally handing out food packs to members of the press covering events outside the palace’s gates. It really is commendable when a King consistently puts protocol aside in the interest of the Rakyat.

The media personnel on duty weather the scorching heat and put up with long waits all in the name of delivering the news. Hence, the move by the King serves not only as a morale boost for the media representatives on duty, but is a shining example of the Agong’s equal care and treatment of all Malaysians.

I urge the public to take heed of the King’s actions of prioritising the welfare of the people. This serves as an example of how we should look out for one another especially in times like this where we find ourselves battling with the Covid-19 pandemic.

I would also like to commend the government for the recent vaccination of media officials. It is undoubtedly a step in the right direction in achieving national herd immunity against the Covid-19 virus. The move will definitely spur our newsmen to carry on their good work of reporting the news in a balanced and objective manner.

My gratitude and appreciation is also extended to all frontliners and individuals, who are placing duty above self in making Malaysia safe. We all share a common responsibility to protect and save lives. It is not only their burden to carry. Do not be careless. Do not be selfish.

We are halfway through the year and we are still not out of the clouds yet with regards to the pandemic. Please, abide by the Standard Operating Procedures. Be a patriotic citizen and do your part for Malaysia.

Victory requires a united effort from all of us.
